Villa Vera Puerto Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Villa Vera, Puerto Isla Mujeres' spectacular tropical garden swimming pool reflects the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean surrounding the island. Just five minutes from downtown Isla Mujeres, this property offers access to the marina; a port to many boats and yachts. When you return to our intimate resort, enjoy fabulous dining and a nearby beach club. Isla Mujeres was originally where the ancient Maya civilization asked favors from their goddess of fertility. Centuries later, Spanish explorers discovered carved figurines of women on the island and named the site Isla Mujeres, which translates to "Island of Women" in English. Today, Mayans still inhabit the island, working as fishermen, and welcoming tourists. Experience the serene lifestyle, fabulous seafood restaurants, water sports and white sandy beaches that will make your vacation memorable.
Villa Vera Puerto Isla Mujeres offers superior, suite, and villa rooms that can sleep up to four guests. These rooms feature furniture hand-crafted from the wood of the Fresno tree, marble floors cut from local quarries, coffee pots, and jetted tubs. Isla Mujeres occupies a fortunate position; it is both an isolated tropical paradise and a twenty-minute ferry ride from Cancun at the same time. Visitors get the best of both worlds. Snorklers and SCUBA divers will delight in the crystal-clear waters that surround the island, which teem with exotic sea life, and naturalists can traverse the whole island over the course of a day and marvel in the diversity of its flora and fauna.
For those more interested in nightlife and general grandiosity, Cancun is just across the water and needs little introduction. From pirate dinner cruises to world-famous nightclubs, this Spring Break hotspot promises everything and rarely disappoints. Farther inland on the Yucatan Peninsula, the heart of the ancient Mayan world awaits those with an interest in culture, history, and archaeology. Visitors can climb the mighty Pyramind Kukulcan at Chichen Itza or explore one of the lesser known ruins like Muyil, Tulum, or Uxmal.
For most people, Mexican cuisine needs no introduction. Making use of fresh corn and beans, delicious tortillas, and expertly-seasoned meat, Mexican cooks have made the food of their native country famous throughout the world. Whether it is chicken mole or seafood enchiladas, almost everyone has his or her favorite Mexican dish.
Despite its small size, Isla Mujeres has excellent dining options, such as Zama Beach Restaurant & Lounge, which offers sweeping views of the Caribbean and an authentic local menu. Another casual option is Rolandi's Pizzeria, which offers delicious homemade pizza pies available from dawn till dusk.
Isla Mujeres gained its name when the Spanish arrived in the 16th century and saw a plethora of statues, idols, and paintings depicting the Mayan goddess of childbirth and medicine, Ix Chel. To the natives, this island was her home, and considered a sacred place upon which no villages were ever built. The Mayans erected a temple on Isla Mujeres that was almost completely destroyed in 1988 by Hurricane Gilbert.
During the 1970s, along with other previously-deserted seaside locations like Cancun and Los Cabos, the island was developed by the Mexican government to be one of the great balnearios of the country's new tourist industry. Isla Mujeres has become known internationally for its ideal location amid a pristine tropical wilderness but only a short boat ride away from the nightlife of Cancun and the ancient splendor of the Yucatan's Mayan ruins.
