Legend has it that Orlando got its name from a carving in the side of a tree. A man named Orlando Reeves, who operated a sugar mill and plantation thirty miles north of the area, carved his name into a tree on the shores of Lake Eola, and settlers who arrived a few years later assumed it was the grave marker of a soldier slain during the Seminole War. Orlando was incorporated in 1875 and quickly grew to become Florida's largest inland city. It started attracting tourists in the first decade of the twentieth century, and became a tourism powerhouse when Walt Disney decided to build Walt Disney World there since it was safer from hurricanes than Miami and Tampa.
Orlando has three major theme parks: Walt Disney World®, Universal Studios®, and Sea World®. Grand Beach Resort is closest to Sea World®. Sea World® hosts 5.1 million guests annually, making it the ninth most-visited amusement park in the United States. It covers two hundred acres and has ten major rides, four of which are roller coasters, and offers attractions like the Wild Arctic indoor zoo, the A'lure acrobatic show at the Nautilus Theatre, the Shark Encounter, and the world-famous Shamu show. An insider favorite is Sharks Underwater Grill, where guests can dine while watching sharks, rays, and venomous fish swim by.
