Restaurants in Palm Springs are a combination of diverse Angelino tastes and the inevitable influence from California's southern neighbor. The result is nothing short of delicious. Tuck into some pollo en mole (chicken with mole sauce), fajitas, or enchiladas, at one of the many Mexican restaurants in Palm Springs. If you’re hungry for something different, stop in at one of Palm Springs’ French, Italian, or Mediterranean restaurants. For something a bit more low-key, visit one of Palm Springs’ specialty pizza restaurants or cafes.
Palm Springs is located a little over one hundred miles east of Los Angeles and home to about 42,500 people. This area was exclusively the home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians from about 1500 CE to the mid nineteenth century, when U.S. settlers began arriving. At first, Palm Springs was a dusty frontier town, but quickly seemed destined for something more. By the early 1900s, the town had become a tourist destination for visitors with health conditions that required dry heat to maintain. Then, twenty years later, the movie stars began arriving.
Named after the hot springs that flow nearby, Palm Springs has steadily grown from a sleepy Hollywood getaway spot to a bustling, energetic city that is now one of the most popular vacation destinations in the American West. For the last ninety years, this city has set the architectural trends that the rest of America follows and in the process become a glamorous desert retreat known for frequent celebrity sightings, elite tennis clubs, and lavish health spas. Palm Springs has also garnered a reputation as a first-rate golf destination and boasts some of the country's best courses.
